Sun over Härjedalen!
Today there has been a strange glow in the sky almost all day. But it wasn't some alien UFO or the like, but the sun that I had almost forgotten what it looked like! After several days of gray skies and rain, it felt unusual to see the landscape bathed in sunlight.
I started the morning with a little RV management. Drained what needs to be emptied and filled up what needed to be filled up since I was camping. A normal part of everyday life when you live on the roads. Having done that, I continued to Östersund to stock up before steering the cow towards Härjedalen. What an incredible difference it makes when the sun is shining! The entire landscape comes to life and takes on a whole new dimension. I traveled through an amazingly beautiful autumn landscape where the trees changed in everything from yellow to red and the mountains in the distance got a golden shine from the sun's rays.
In the afternoon I arrived at Flatruet, which is Sweden's highest public road. It was a natural consequence after riding Vildmarksvägen, which is Sweden's highest paved road. Here I camp for the night on the plateau which is the highest point. I have also done that once before and there is something magical about settling down here and having a completely open mountain landscape in front of you as a view. I took a longer walk on the mountain and couldn't help but admire the snow-capped peaks on the horizon. Norway has its impressive mountains with dramatic peaks and deep fjords, but the Swedish mountains have a different kind of beauty. They may not be as pointed or steep but they have a grandeur and power that is hard to describe. It's a feeling of freedom - like being part of something bigger.
I was also lucky enough to come across a bunch of reindeer during my walk. Seeing them on the mountain in their natural environment is a completely different experience than when they wander along the side of the road. They almost blended into the landscape with their furs in nature's own colors and it felt like a perfect end to the afternoon.
As an extra bonus, nature offered a nice sunset!
What the plans are for tomorrow, I don't really know yet. I take the day as it comes and wait to see how the weather plays out. After all, that's the charm of living in a mobile home.
