A wet finish on Vildmarksvägen

Today the rain hasn't made a single break. As soon as I opened my eyes it was as if the sky decided to drown everything in its path. It has been a constant stream of rain and the only variation has been the intensity throughout the day.

My first stop was at the beautiful Trappstegsforsen. It is usually perfect for capturing in a picture, but today it was a challenge to photograph. After only a second, the lens was drenched in rain and it was impossible to see anything. The solution was to try to hold an umbrella in one hand and the camera in the other and shoot with one hand but it was a challenge that didn't lead to any impressive pictures.

After the rapids, I drove on to Stalonberget's viewpoint, which is actually also a new place for me along Vildmarksvägen. The last 2 kilometers up to the top were newly asphalted and really nice but oh so steep and narrow! Only one car could fit in the width and there were no arranged meeting places and really no other possibilities to meet with a motorhome either, so it was just a matter of accelerating and hoping that no one would show up. Once I arrived I was rewarded with a great view although the rain and fog obscured most of it. It had to be the umbrella trick again and here too it was difficult to take some inspiring pictures, but it was still worth the effort to get up after all.

I then continued south and now I have landed at Camp Route 45 in Hammerdal. I've stayed at this campsite before when I went home from Lofoten last winter and it's a nice little campsite but here too it's wet, really wet! The rain continues to pour down and the ground is more or less a sea of wet grass and mud. Even though I have four wheel drive, I chose to park one pair of wheels on gravel just to be safe as I saw deep, muddy tracks from those who tried to get out of here before.

It wasn't the most spectacular end of Vildmarksvägen for this time, but sometimes that's also part of the charm of these trips – being out in the vicissitudes of nature even when it's a little inhospitable.
