A day full of waterfalls!
When I woke up this morning it was -2 degrees outside and the ground was covered in frost – winter is really coming! Despite the chilly start, the weather looked to be glorious so I decided to stay in the area around Funäsdalen all day. It was a day filled with waterfalls and hikes.
My first stop was Ljusnanforsen, which is very easily accessible next to the road.
After standing for a while and admiring both the view and the mighty roar from the water, I continued towards Lake Tevåsjön, where I chose to walk one of the so-called “Guldturer”, which is a network of marked hiking trails around Funäsdalen. I can really recommend these trails if you visit the area! There is something for everyone regardless of length and difficulty level and they are always well described and well marked with orange sticks along the routes.
This tour was 6 km long and started at Lake Tevåsjön. The weather was perfect with clear, high autumn air and sunshine breaking through the chilly morning fog. The trail followed Tevåfallet upstream for about a third of the distance. It was an almost magical environment to walk next to the roaring water for several kilometers. Few things beat hiking in the mountains on a beautiful autumn day!
After a few hours on that trail I made my way to the next waterfall which was Svanåfallet. The hike there was perhaps not so much fun as it goes along a private dirt road for about 1.5 km and they were also digging fiber and electricity which made it really muddy. But the fall itself was beautiful even if it required quite a bit of scrambling down through steep birch slopes to get what I thought was the best view for photography. After that it was just to walk back the same muddy road back again.
The last stop of the day was Anderssjöåfallet, which is easily accessible from the road. You can also go on a “Guldtur” there, which starts with a whopping 303 steps up the side of the waterfall. I've climbed all those steps before and enjoyed the amazing view of the waterfall from the top but today I felt pretty sore in the legs after a mile or so of hiking over stumps, rocks and splinters so I refrained this time.
Now I have almost been out with the motor home for four weeks and it has mostly been in fairly lonely places. To get used to civilization again, I decided to spend the night in the Funäsdalen community itself before starting the last days on the way home tomorrow.
