How to spend a day in Helsinki?
The day started early with leaving the motorhome at the workshop, getting up at 5 Swedish time. Luckily I got a loaner car so it was just a matter of spending a day in Helsinki and keeping my fingers crossed that they fix the broken AC.
While the motorhome was being serviced, I decided to take a long walk on Fölisön, an island that can be reached via a beautiful footbridge. Paths meandered through thickets and along the cliffs I got to enjoy the fresh sea air. There is something special about being out in nature early in the morning when the world is still coming to life. It turned out to be a little gem full of nice walking paths, beautiful nature and old buildings.
After a beneficial walk on Fölisön, I took a boat trip out to Sveaborg, a historic gem just outside Helsinki. It is always just as fascinating to wander around among old buildings and imagine life here several hundred years ago.
Lunch was enjoyed at a small restaurant overlooking the marina – a simple but delicious meal that made a perfect break in the historic surroundings.
Sveaborg also has plenty of cozy restaurants and cafes.
In the afternoon I received word that the motor home was ready. Turns out there was a leak on the AC and a broken valve that needed to be replaced. So after getting tangled up in Helsinki traffic, I was finally able to pick up the car with working AC, which was lucky given that it was 28 degrees today in Helsinki. A big thank you to both Mercedes and Veho Car in Helsinki for excellent service, hugely grateful they were able to take it in so quickly and fix it.
After checking that everything worked as it should, I set course for Borgå. Once I arrived in Borgå, I found a place to spend the night. It was perhaps not the most idyllic place to park the motorhome but sometimes you just need a place to sleep and it has been a long day with a lot of walking.
After parking the car, I took a walk and admired the beautiful old parts of Borgå, a small idyll.
Now I can finally start the real journey tomorrow.
