When the trip doesn't go as planned

Sometimes it doesn't turn out exactly as you planned. When I was about to set off with the motorhome, expectations were high – it would be a wonderful trip of adventure and relaxation. But already on departure I ran into problems: the motor home's AC was broken. It's never been a problem before so of course it came as a surprise.

I contacted Mercedes for help. They gave me a recommendation for a workshop in Helsinki so I boarded the ferry hoping to go there straight away when the ferry arrived.

In the meantime, I had a nice boat trip to Helsinki with good food, some good drink and good entertainment.

After a good night's sleep on the ferry, I headed for the workshop the next day with the hope of getting the problem fixed. But unfortunately the camper was too tall for their garage – it just wouldn't fit. It's not just advantages of substantial ground clearance 🤨

After a bit more research and a few calls I found another workshop who after visiting them managed to find an opportunity to look at it tomorrow Wednesday. They managed to find a slot but want me to leave the car at 7 Finnish time, which means I have to get up really early to be there on time. Fingers crossed that they can fix the AC as it gets very hot and humid quickly in the car without it even at relatively normal outside temperatures. Especially considering that I will be away for a month.

The rest of the day was spent finding somewhere to park the motorhome overnight. I visited several places near the workshop that I found through the Park4Night app and through other sources but all of them had either a ban on overnight stays or a maximum of four hours parking. After much searching and some frustration, I finally found a small lake half an hour north of Helsinki where I can stay overnight.

It will be an early morning but I hope everything works out so I can continue my journey with working AC.

To be continued…
