From sun to dark clouds at Sommarøy
From sitting outside for several hours in the sun yesterday, I woke up this morning to only 2 plus degrees. The contrast was palpable, but the sun still lit up the landscape and created a nice start to the day. After finally sleeping well without stormy weather, I continued the journey in the direction of Tromsö. It was a bit like traveling through a postcard. Beautiful views rolled by along almost the entire road with mountains and fjords in a constantly changing scenery.
On the way to Tromsø I bypassed the impressive snow capped Lyngen Alps by taking two ferries instead of following the E6 all the way, it's always a fun detour to take a ferry on a road trip in Norway and view the mountains from the sea .
When I passed through Tromsø, I unfortunately did not get a really positive impression. It felt like a rather dreary and gray city so I continued on without stopping. Instead, I aimed for the small island of Sommarøy.
Here on Sommarøy, I parked the car for the night at a small campsite. The weather had taken a real turn, from the bright sunny morning to a more gloomy stage. Dark clouds now hang heavy over the mountains and the rain feels like it will start falling at any moment.
The campsite is perhaps not the most scenic I have stayed at, but it is functional, clean and stylish. It is located between a small harbor on one side and a sandy beach on the other. Even if the weather is not at its best, it feels cozy to curl up in the warmth of the car while the storm slowly moves in over the fjord.
Time to have something nice to drink and sit back and observe the various guises of nature.
