Storm on Nordkapp and further towards Havøysund
If I thought it was very windy the other night, it was nothing compared to the storm that swept over the North Cape last night. It felt as if the wind wanted to overturn the entire mobile home and there was hardly any further sleep. Finally I gave up trying to sleep and got up early, ready to face the day.
After a quick breakfast, I went back the way I came. I first made a stop in Skarsvåg, a small fishing village located near Nordkapp. There I decided to take a morning walk to Kirkeporten, a natural formation in the form of a gate with a view of the North Cape cliff. The morning weather was absolutely wonderful – sunshine between the clouds, fresh air and of course with the wind as my now constant traveling companion. The walk provided a much needed dose of fresh air and the view was truly magical as I walked along the sea.
After Skarsvåg I continued the drive back from the North Cape area and steered the route along one of Norway's national tourist routes to Havøysund. That road is truly something out of the ordinary. The scenery is constantly changing, from rugged mountains to majestic views of the sea, and I stopped several times just to enjoy the view. I love how the roads meander through the landscape, constantly offering new views around every bend.
Now I have parked the motor home on a hill overlooking the sea. On the other side of the car, I have the cemetery as a neighbor - a bit exciting, you might say. I hope there are no ghosts tonight, but I'm still looking forward to a quieter night than the last one.
