The journey towards the North Cape: A day of impressive views and the power of nature
Today the journey continued towards the North Cape and it was a day filled with the magnificence of nature. The first stop was at Silfar Canyon, a place that offered a powerful experience. I walked along the edge of the gorge as the blue-green water gushed deep down into the gorge. A wonderful feeling just to breathe in and enjoy nature.
Further towards North Cape, the road followed the edge of the sea and I enjoyed the constantly changing views.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was driving through the North Cape Tunnel, which is 6.8 kilometers long and reaches 212 meters below sea level. The feeling of traveling deep under the sea and then coming out on the other side where the landscape changed dramatically was overwhelming.
The closer I got to the North Cape, the more the landscape changed. Suddenly the vistas opened up in a way that cannot be described. Mighty cliffs that plunge steeply into the sea and barren, wild nature.
Once I arrived at North Cape, I took a long walk along the cliff edges and admired the view over the Arctic Ocean. Standing there with the North Cape cliff plunging 307 meters into the sea and with an endless sea in front was a feeling I will not soon forget.
I continued walking along the edge, admiring the other views that were everywhere you looked.
After photographing and admiring the iconic globe on the rock, I returned to the RV and cooked some food.
The evening offered a magical light and an impressive sunset all while the storm was raging around the ears. There is something special about being in such a place where the power of nature is so tangible and present.
I have decided to stay at North Cape tonight despite the storm. There is something alluring about being surrounded by this mighty nature and sleeping I can do when I get even older. I look forward to waking up tomorrow and discovering what surprises the views and weather have in store.
