Lots of rain and messy ferries
Today it has rained, rained...and rained. I had hoped to see the majestic view of the Seven Sisters which is an impressive mountain chain here on the Helgeland coast. But when the rain poured down and visibility was almost non-existent, I stayed in the marina until after lunch in the hope that the weather would lighten up. Unfortunately it didn't get much better and when I finally drove past the mountains they were completely hidden behind heavy rain clouds.
The next goal was the ferry between Tjøtta and Forvik. But it's Saturday and the winter tour list meant I had to wait two hours before it went. Luckily, I got a seat even though I was so early - there were only three cars after me and then the ferry was full. If I had missed it, I would have had to wait another 2.5 hours for the last ferry of the day. As we were crossing the sky opened up a bit and I caught a quick glimpse of the Seven Sisters of the Sea but most of it was still hidden in the clouds, especially the distinctive peaks.
The next ferry was only a 17 km drive after the first and I had 25 minutes to get there so it would be easy. But our ferry from Tjøtta was delayed because it needed to stop at three smaller ports along the way to drop off cars. I drove as fast as I could given the speed limits and winding roads and arrived five minutes after the ferry was supposed to have left. Luckily they waited a bit and three minutes after I rolled on board it departed. However, many of the cars from the first ferry did not make it and had to wait three hours for the next one. I would have gone completely crazy if that happened to me, especially since there was absolutely nothing to do in the small harbor which was basically just a ramp for the ferry.
The day has mostly consisted of ferry rides, even though there were only two ferries with short distances. Now I have parked below Torghatten, the famous mountain with a natural hole through the mountain. If the weather gods are in a better mood tomorrow I might be able to take a hike up to the hole.
